Tenant has been evicted, how can I get my money back?

6 months ago, my tenant stopped paying the rent. It took a long time to get him evicted (with bailiffs etc) and now I need to understand my options to get the money back. He is a non EU citizen and even though he could take off, I somehow don't think that's his intention. I will apply to get the ruling on his credit and tax records, but wondering if there are other ways to get the money back? Have you been in a similar situation and what did you do?

sadly this is 'you'll be lucky' situation. Raise a case through the courts but there's nothing else you can do. He probably knows all the dodges to plead poverty and get any repayment set at tuppence a week.

learn the lessons; rent guarantee, hefty referencing and checking, all the insurances. And don't expect much sympathy on LL-hating MN!!
