Buildteam - London Side Return Company

I am creating a new thread as the old one no longer shows in Google searches, despite the negative review which was accused of being plagiarised from another site having been removed.

The original thread is www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/2533596-Buildteam-Clapham-based-company-Side-return-specialists
and, in my opinion, makes intriguing reading. Many posts have been removed, and a number of posters say this is because they were threatened with legal action.

Now Mr Douglas Bush from the US has had the OP's full review removed, claiming copyright infringement. He claims he had the bad experience with a company called BuildTeam not the OP! You can read his story here www.gotohomestay.com/buildteam-interior-designers/

OP posts:

Pleased to see that the Guardian has covered this story:

www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/may/23/copyright-law-internet-mumsnet

They'll not find it easy to get that pulled from Google.

PausingFlatly · 26/05/2016 14:12

Just copying most of my post from another thread, as this has the better title.

The original thread is about Build Team, sometimes written BuildTeam, in Clapham, London, who are builders specialising in side returns.

There are many companies with similar names registered at Companies House, with some of the same directors, eg:
Build Team London Ltd
beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/06601658

Build Team (Holdings) Ltd
beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/07384749

Build Team Holborn Ltd
beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/07249621

Build Team (Holdings) Ltd
beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/09352041

Build Team Clapham Ltd
beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/10038144

Officers listed for these companies at Companies House include (in various combinations):
Dan Davidson
Daniel Joseph Davidson
Ben Davidson
Benjamin Luther Davidson
Sarah Davidson
Mark Eden
Andrew William Kafkaris

A poster on the previous thread also identified Bruton Street Partners Ltd as an owner of one of the companies, but I haven't been able to work out how to get that info from the Companies House site. However Bruton Street's info at CH is here: beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/06278230
and the officers listed are:
Daniel Joseph Davidson
Benjamin Luther Davidson
Andrew William Kafkaris
Zickie Hwei Ling Lim
Tom Pickthorn

I hope I've got all of that right: do please follow the links to check.

PausingFlatly · 26/05/2016 14:14

And if I've understood the original thread correctly (Buildteam - Clapham based company "Side return specialists" ) the OP there posted a negative review of their experiences with BuildTeam or Buildteam.

Other posters also posted negative reviews.

Many of the posts have now been deleted.

PausingFlatly · 26/05/2016 14:14

If I understand correctly, some posts were deleted on the other thread because Build Team / BuildTeam contacted MNHQ and threatened legal action because of the negative reviews.

PausingFlatly · 26/05/2016 14:17

If I understand correctly, the original thread has now been made unGoogleable, after someone made a (very interesting) claim that the Opening Post infringed their copyright and they invoked the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ( DMCA ) to ask for a takedown.

Very worth reading the whole saga at the original thread: Buildteam - Clapham based company "Side return specialists"

PausingFlatly · 26/05/2016 14:19

The Build Team DMCA takedown may, of course, not have been initiated by Build Team.

PausingFlatly · 26/05/2016 14:25

The Build Team DMCA takedown was in respect of a post by a supposed Mr Douglas Bush in Indiana, USA. Who supposedly posted a review of Build Team on another website date before the MNer posted her identical review.

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 26/05/2016 22:14

Bump bump bump

ChablisTyrant · 26/05/2016 22:38

The guardian article is fascinating and I highly recommend it.

It is important to keep highlighting this case to discourage others from (mis?)-using copyright legislation.

Well done OP... Keep it up...

yvonnemac51 · 28/05/2016 07:56

The really good news this morning is that the original thread has now been reinstated in Google's search results. On Google UK, it is the second suggestion in an adblocked search for "buildteam".

DarkBlueEyes · 28/05/2016 14:28

God this is all so incredibly fascinating. But hideous for poor Daisy. I wouldn't fancy being in any way connected to BuildTeam either as a staff member or whatever.

PippaFawcett · 28/05/2016 15:10

What was the outcome for the OP, did she ever get the work finished? And surely it would have been easier for this company to actually do the job properly than to go to the lengths they did to get a review removed from the internet?

sorenipples · 28/05/2016 17:37

I'm not sure what the state of Daisy's house is. Excellent news that, presumably in light of the Guardian article, the thread has been reinstated in Google searches. I think it's an important victory for consumer rights, and hopefully will set a precedent to prevent future DMCA abuses. For those who have joined this topic late and missed it at the bottom of the google searches, a link to the DMCA take down request is here: www.lumendatabase.org/notices/12083648

We are still waiting for Douglas Bush, who apparently reads these forums to comment HmmGrinWinkGrin

PausingFlatly, to find out the ownership of a company look at the annual return in the filing history
beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/06601658/filing-history

There should be an annual return each year, showing how the ownership (shareholder) changes. The incorporation certificate shows ownership at incorporation.

This really isn't what you expect to be talking about in a property forum.

The Google Reviews make for interesting reading too.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 28/05/2016 21:05

Mr Douglas Bush's claim was quite extraordinary. I'd love to hear from him directly on this thread.

Meantime there's some very interesting reading here, not least for someone contemplating a #sidereturn in #London by various companies, including #BuildTeam, which I am.

No idea if hashtags work in Google search terms, but no harm done either way.

Just5minswithDacre · 28/05/2016 21:25

Gosh. Interesting.

They're near me. I'll avoid like the plague.

Not because an MNer gave them a poor review; Because of the rather sinister attempts to suppress reviews.
