Any experience of storage combi boilers?

We're thinking of getting a Veissman one. I don't know anyone who has one already.

Are they expensive to run compared to a normal combi?

I don't know the figures, but modern cylinders, for example are very well insulated and IIRC they lose in the region of 1 or 2 kWh per day.

If you are heating with gas (which you will be) you are paying about 2.8p per kWh this year, including VAT.

For comparison, energy from electricity costs (me) about 10.9p per kWh.

My summer gas usage costs about 25p per day (plus standing charge)

I think you will find the cost trivial.

An ordinary combi is actually less economical in use than a hw cylinder, because it fires up, briefly, every time you turn on a hot tap, then after getting itself hot, it cools down again.

Viessmann are a fine quality boiler, I have one, with a HW cylinder. The storage version is supposed to enable you to fill a bath faster than an ordinary combi can do it.

Thanks PigletJohn, that's helpful to know.

And yes, that's why we're considering one. I understand that they're supposed to compensate to some extent for pressure drop when more than one hot outlet is running.
