3 people in one bed flat - space ideas please.

Myself and 2 DC are downsizing to a one bed flat. They will share bedroom and I will be on sofa bed in lounge.
Please could I have your best ideas re utilising space, making it bearable etc.

And if there are any Kondi experts out there who could give me tips on getting rid of at least half of our things then please show yourselves!

I will need to rent some storage somewhere for some bits; other ideas I have are: mirrors, lots of shelves, ummmm.....

I have lived in a similar set up but not with children. Me and DH in one room and the living room waa flatmates room.

How old are your children roughly?

We found it helpful to split each room up, so each room had a sofa/tv on one side and a bookshelf (like the ikea expedit) seperating it from the bedroom/wardrobe area. That way everyone could spend time in both rooms if they wanted to. It was a more sociable set up. Don't know if this would work for you.

Also we had a lot of our stuff in storage so only the things that got used a lot were kept. Hope this helps. x

I live in a tiny one bed flat. My tips are:

Be clever with storage e.g. get furniture especially beds or seating with hidden storage
Less furniture is better - too much furniture will make the place seem smaller
Measure up and buy smaller furniture if you can - large furniture takes up a lot of room
Only have what you need - we all have a cupboard full of mugs but realistically only need 4 or 5
If you're not using it send it to the charity shop
Pack away your winter clothing when not needed - vacuum bags are great

That doesn't sound sustainable in the long term. Is there no way you can get a 2-bed place? What's your financial situation - are you divorcing/separating? Planning to buy or rent?

Big chest/storage coffee table to put your bedding in?
If you haven't used something in the last year, give it to charity/bin.
Tiny vacuum cleaner (you can get titchy ones).
Storage bench instead of dining chairs (you can then push the bench against a wall so the whole table/chairs take up less space than having dining chairs next to the wall.)
Definitely under-bed drawers (you'll get more space if you have a wooden bed with wooden drawers e.g. Warren Evans, than if you have a divan with drawers).
All side tables/coffee tables should also have storage or drawers.
Small footprint furniture as someone has said.
Kids room - how old are they? Can you have bunkbeds so there's space for desks/sofa/toy storage?

are the rooms a decent size? can you arrange the furniture so that everyone gets their own little space.
neighbours are living in a one bed with 2 dc (so 4 people)
they all sleep in the bedroom but have it divided by wardrobes so each part is more private. the dc have bunk beds.

Instead of beds have fold up Japanese style futons. They are like a mattress that folds 3 times. Put them away each morning and put them out each night. The bedroom is then clear in the day.
