Electric shower 10.5kw - any recommendations for a good one?

Six years ago, I renovated my bathroom and installed an Aqualisa Quartz shower 10.5kw. It looks good and when it works it is great.

However, it stopped working again last night and will need an engineer to come and replace it: that will be the third time in 6 years. The repairs cost me £210 three years ago and I am about to pay a similar amount again. If I was sure that the part replacement would be ok for the next 5 to 10 years, I would be quite happy to proceed with the repair but to be honest, I have lost faith in the product and the company.

Could somebody recommend an excellent electric shower (10.5kw)? I want it to be reliable and would like it in chrome, ideally in a matt chrome rather than shiny but hey, beggars and all that!

I am prepared to pay good money to have something that does not break down every second year.

I've been really impressed with Mira showers. I have a very old Mira (it's a pumped unit from the central heating but I believe they do electric showers too) and it's been very good. I have had to repair it but the spares were easily available and not too expensive. The company were also quite helpful on the phone.

My Mira shower was installed years and years ago and it's been totally reliable, never broken down.

Thanks to you both. The Mira showers were recommended elsewhere too so they seem to have a good reputation.

I looked on their website and they did not seem to have a 10.5 kw one in chrome but I could liaise with them to double-check.

Anybody else who can recommend other makes or add to the Mira consensus?

We had an old Mira Sport that was great (not a 10.8kw either). We replaced it with a Mira Vie (10.8kw) which is OK but nowhere near as good as the old Sport model.

I would recommend the Sport, if you can live with a white shower, otherwise the Aqualisa showers are good and you can get 10.5kw chrome models.

White would not look the best against my tiles, so I would like a chrome one..

I like the Aqualisa showers but either they are not build to last or the quality is just poor: it is just not on to have them fail every 2 years or so... just after the warranty period has expired, which has been my case twice now.

Not quite the 10.8Kw but have a look at the mira escape. This is available in chrome.

My favorite are the Mira digital with all the mixing apparatus above the ceiling and a remote on the wall. But they don't do these in the electric range. Still hankering after one of this these.!

Why do you want an electric shower? How is your hot water heated?

Because I already have one.

I am not the most technical person. I currently have a back-boiler and a hot water tank. The pressure of the hot water coming out of the bath tap is not the best.

I also spent a lot of money on my bathroom six years ago so I don't want to throw everything into the air again.

Depending where your tank is it may be relatively easy to use a pumped shower. Some of the Mira digital range have integral pumps, with this range all you are left with I'd a shower head and a remote control unit on the wall. The older unit that I have has an integral pump unit feeding off the cylinder and delivers a really good flow.

We have a 10.8kW Mira Sport and are very pleased with it. We aren't on mains gas and heat our water mainly on Economy 7 overnight. Our hot water tank simply isn't big enough for two grown ups to have pumped showersin the morning without reheating water. And it's a pretty standard sized hot water tank.

We have a Mira 10.5 kW and it is used every day. Very good.

Its a shower room at the back of our house a long way from the hot water tank and we have a pump shower upstairs that uses a whole tank very quickly so the DSs use the electric one at the same time as we use the main pump shower.

The Mira is not as good as the main pump shower but still very hot and strong not just a hateful disappointing dribble that so many electric showers like my MIL's produce.

My hot water tank is not massively big, hence why I am sticking with an electric shower for the moment.

It looks like Mira is a good option so I will look into it further. Thanks again for the comments and recommendations.
