oak framed or not oak framed that is the question

Hoping to do a large house extension soon. I love the look of the oak framed houses like border oak and it would match well with the existing house/cottage which has ceiling beams and fireplaces. But am wondering if it's possible to get the look of oak framed, I.e beams in rooms and in some walls without the oak frame? And if so is it cheaper or not?

If you went oak framed or chose not to go oak framed, please can you advise why and if it worked out well.

Oak framed sounds lovely and although I don't know your current house. I'm a fan of oak framed extensions balanced with large windows. They can enhance both old and modern houses and look fabulous.

Read op properly now! I'm sure your builder could build a wood framed extension. It could be cheaper than tradional brick because they are light and would not need such deep foundations and the in fills are lighter, clad in panels that look like your existing house. The trusses could be larger beams.

I'm sure you will find examples trawling the Internet.

If you're anywhere near Birmingham, the National Homebuilding and Renovating Show is on from Thursday to Sunday this week. There seem to be quite a few oak frame suppliers exhibiting and answering questions, plus some seminars and workshops (I'm nothing to do with it, just thinking the same thing as you and so going to the show - we have free consultations booked with a couple of suppliers to get some idea of possibilities and costs).

If you're in London, the Grand Designs show is coming to Excel again soon, think end April, beginning May? Again I'd assume there'd be some oak frame suppliers - the current issue of Grand Designs mag has a pullout guide and a free ticket, but I don't have it to hand atm so can't check.

I am not too,far from Birmingham, will try to make the show.
