Anyone know about painting / rendering / covering pebbledash?

We're about to start an extension, which we will render, and ideally want to render the parts of the rest of the house that are pebbledashed to match. I've read conflicting things online, so have no idea if I have to remove it, if it can just be rendered over, or if one of the long lasting paints would be a sensible middle ground. Does anyone know what my realistic options are?

Our house has painted pebbledash and last year we had a hip to gable loft conversion.

Once the building works were finished the new gable was pebbledashed to match the rest of the house.

It was a straight forward job and included as part of the extension works by the builders to ensure it matched the house, except we've not got round to getting it painted yet so actually matches!

Masonry paint, something like sandtex

An alternative to paint is pre coloured plaster called krend (other companies make similar).It is more costly but supposed to last longer (although I've read conflicting things).

We have a rendered painted house and for an extension we rendered with krend the new part.We got colour samples from the company.After 2 years it still looks great but it's high up and not likely to get bumped.We are now looking to render a front wall, so have to decide if its plastered and then painted with masonary paint.It will be cheaper and could be repainted in a few years if needed as no scaffolding required.

I could suggest some quotes, standard rendering and masonasry paint is quite straightforward but could be costly if scaffolding is needed to repaint in a few years.Krend should last longer but not sure how long it's been around to prove its reliable.
