looking at getting an ikea kitchen, but for the price other suppliers seem a better bet for the worktop, has any one done this and did it come off well?

Yep. We had an independent granite fitter come and put a granite top on our IKEA kitchen. It was absolutely fine, even with sections of extra deep recess.

Not done but perfectly doable. Go for it!

Just check the depths. The cupboards are slightly deeper than standard kitchen cupboards IIRC so a standard 60cm worktop (the basic depth, although lots of places do different depths) will not fit.

We did exactly this with quartz, looks amazing, no problems at all.

Another one here who has fitted independent marble tops and stainless steel in the past

seven201 · 07/04/2016 16:55

Yep, added quartz no problem

what retailers did you use?

We got an Axiom laminate worktop for our Ikea cabinets.

It comes in 2 depths, the standard 60cm and 66.5cm deep.

Ikea's worktop is 63.5cm deep and our Axiom was the 66.5cm deep one which was cut down a little at the back and scribed to the wall.

Axiom send large almost A4 samples of their worktops if you can't get to see it in real life anywhere.

We sourced it locally.

Thelesserspottedbee what axiom worktop did you go for? and what is the quality like? thanks

EagleRay · 18/04/2016 19:20

I'm in the process of getting ikea units fitted and have got a silestone worktop arriving next week

I'm also getting bespoke fronts and sides made - it's bumped up the cost of the kitchen a fair bit but I've ended up with the kitchen I really want!

traceyed1 · 18/04/2016 19:25

what ikea kitchen are you getting? we have one on order coming in a few weeks the grey gloss ringhult doors. still deciding on a worktop Hmm

bowsaw · 18/04/2016 19:36

part will be the grey gloss, just floor units with a worktop/sink etc and another area is to be floor to ceiling white gloss units,
