one room, two floor levels....what to do

We moved house....
Several bathroom leaks and a number of other issues later and I am preparing to decorate the dining room only to find that one half (the original)has a solid concrete floor with very bad parquet under the carpet whilst the other half (extension circa 1980) has a solid concrete floor....levelled with the parquet, not the concrete in the other half.

What shall I do????????

it is a through room with doorways to sitting room (nice parquet) and kitchen (ceramic tiles).

I think maybe get the advice of a good wood flooring/ lamminate retailer ... could you maybe lay engineered boards over the existing parquet with foil-backed underlay sandwiched inbetween? Possibly that is a terrible idea but a proper fitter could advise.

The only other thibv I can think of is getting the whole ground floor levelled up...

yes this house has thrown a few unexpected things at me and we're only 6 weeks in!

We had something similar when we bought our current house, except the parquet in the half concrete room was in very good condition. We carpeted the concrete half and furnished the parquet part as a dining area. The room that was all parquet, we had refurbished, a lot of mess and dust, but does look lovely!

Apart from cheapness, I don't know why people putting on extensions don't continue the parquet!
