I'm aware they may be no such thing. 
It's a 10 year old house, and the opening in the living room has a gas supply to it. There's no hearth or surround, so we don't have to worry about matching anything, we're starting from scratch.
If I had loads of cash I think I'd go for a cassette log burner, I like the fancy Stovax ones that are flat and set in to the wall. However, the gas versions of these that I've seen don't seem to be very nice.
What about a gas stove? Are they of the moment and poncey?
