No hot water

Wondering if anyone has any ideas. Since Christmas we've intermittently had no hot water (heating still fine, so not a boiler problem I assume). We have an unvented system, and when it goes we have no pressure in the hot water taps upstairs. It usually comes back on its own after a few days.

We had a part replaced (which I can't for the life of me remember the name of), which the 2 plumbers I've called out agree is the first place to look for the problem. I'm wondering if the pipe put of the cylinder may be blocked - we live in a very hard water area, and if it's worth having the pipes checked and the system flushed?

Next time it happens, turn off all the radiators, see if the cylinder warms up.

Look for a three-port valve like this. Can you find it? Probably close to the pump and/or cylinder and/or boiler.
