Abrupt title, more accurately cost I'd bastard Windows,,,
Old cottage, botched about by previous owner, now looks fake old from outside. Ironically the 'new' render is so well done, the only well done thing, it's staying. So that as context- we need new windows for whole house, current ones are early generation wood double glazing, most leak, all have blown glazing, wood rotten 😮
Would prefer wood to replace but assume £££?
Visit for 9 small windows (1x1.2m) a front door, and glazed panel (single) patio door all to be wood look in grey... £10k ouch
How much might wood be? I'm scared to even ask someone for a quote
I though we'd get lot done for about 6!

Our last house - thatched, stone, non-listed Georgian - had about 22 windows, some of which were in repairable condition, some we replaced as part of a new kitchen extension, a few were newish timber casements and some were beyond saving. We replaced seven of the nine windows on the front elevation with hardwood acoustic d/g sashes made by a local joinery co. This cost around 10k including painting and fitting in 2014. Iirc we had a couple of other quotes and went for the middle one.

We found the quotes from a local joinery company for timber one were comparable with decent UPVC in fact one company quoted a lot more for the UPVC.

I won't give you prices as ours were a lot more windows and they are rather huge ornate victorian sash windows. They are beautiful though and everyone thinks they are original until they realise they are double glazed.

Thanks for sharing, overnight up with baby again I've been reviewing timber more, and today plan on measuring all the windows as I think hope at least some of them are standard jald-wen ones which might make it work....
