Photo - what colour floor tiles would you have here?

Our conservatory floor needs a floor!!!

What colour do you think would be best?

Please ignore the tumble dryer in the photo - that won't be there forever.

The conservatory will be a fairly constant living room with TV etc

The house isn't a forever home and will probably be sold on in a few years - probably to the small family or retiring couple market.

Because of that, we'd pondered something safe/conservative - off-white, grey but any thoughts would be very helpful.

Budget is around the £20-£25 per m2 for the tiles. (plus fitting)

Off White with a mid to dark grey grout.

Are you going to paint the brick wall a I think that very strong brown/reddishness makes a grey a little problematic.

I've had a lot of trouble finding tiles that work against red brick so ditto the question about whether you'll be plastering/painting those. If not, based on my own lengthy hunt, I would suggest a pattern with brown, black, cream, that kind of thing. I kept wondering about terracotta. Or a Spanish kind of pattern. I'd actually prefer warmer flooring in a conservatory.

We love the bare brick but I agree, it's hard getting a complementary tile.

In reality, it's probably a lighter finish than it appears in the photo - a bit!

This is the kind of cream/beige tile you often see in conservatories to match brick - it's okay but a bit 'old' for us.

Equally this darker/terracotta-ish feels a bit off too.

We've also thought about the floor warmth issue too and will probably have rugs of some kind but not wall to wall so you defintely need something proper underneath.

We wouldn't want to paint the brick partly because we like it and partly because it gives a future owner the option of what to do if we leave it.

It may be that we have to go for a whiter tile because of that.

We're not sure about alternative floors - vinyl, karndean etc because of the seemingly higher price and possibility of marking.

Can you not go for a wood effect? That'd look much nicer with the brick and some rugs down.

Are you painting the bricks? If so, how about something like this wood effect tile? The colour of wood gives a feeling of warmth, I think.

Or maybe some slate tiles?

If it's cold in winter, don't use tile (unless you put down underfloor heating). I think a bleached wood would look nice.

I think I'd go for an insulated wood-effect vinyl. (No idea what that costs.) Think tiles would be cold.

Definitely won't be painting the bricks.

I can see the attraction of the wood effect - it does seem a natural complement to brick although ceramic wood effect does feel somehow odd!

Slate or even black is something we've considered - would it work or be too dark?

but in a white kitchen.... so not sure about against a brick wall.

I second those who have said paint the brick. Unless you never really want it to feel like part of the house, just an add on. It will give you far more options regarding the flooring.

I think there's a strong risk that if you keep the exposed brick and use tiles it could look dated.

I couldn't bring myself to paint the brick... I might not like it and couldn't go back then...

I'll end up changing the whole house at this rate...

My dad has a conservatory with white painted bricks and during the summer, it's blindingly bright, to the extent that he had put black out blinds on the ceiling windows and keeps the other window blinds closed. You can now sit out there but it's still too bright to watch a tv etc. I'm not a fan of red brick but bear that in mind when you are thinking about covering it.

We have bleached/pale grey wood effect vinyl in our conservatory which has interior brick walls, although our bricks are buff coloured.

I wouldn't paint the brick either. I love the idea of a wooden floor, real or good fake.

Does your conservatory have a solid roof or glass/plastic? Just curious.

We have Karndean in our kitchen - I would really recommend the wood-effect finish. It is warm and easy to clean and comes in a range of shades.
