My boiler has packed up and I am confused as to what would be the best thing to do. I currently have an immersion tank but this only half fills a shower bath before hot water runs out and so annoys me.

I like the idea of a combo boiler because of the constant hot water and I am hoping to extend into the loft so would need to get rid of the water tank up there anyway.

However, I have read that a combo boiler would not be suitable for more than a 1 bathroom house. I read on another thread about the megaflo tanks but can not find out whether they need tanks in loft or not.

Any help PigletJohn or anyone else please?

Depends on the boiler - we have a combi and 2 bathrooms. Ours is powerful enough to run both thermostatic showers at the same time.
Not sure on the megaflow ones.

We only have one bathroom, but the fitters did say it would be fine with a second. You'll probably need to get someone out to have a look. We used British Gas first, asked locally, pondered and then surprises ourselves by going with BG - a combination of price, choice and timescale made them the unexpected best choice.

Oh, we knew absolutely bugger all about boilers beforehand. So we asked a lot of questions and then googled it all when they had gone

Had BG round and they said combo would be okay but I've been looking on internet and it lots of info saying it won't cope.

My brother BG engineer has always said for me to stay with immersion.

The megaflo is expensive though isn't it? I'm in a bad mood and very stressed so brain is having trouble computing at the moment

The actual mega flow brand is quite pricey, there are cheaper Unvented cylinders (which is what the mega flow is) on the market which are not so expensive. Like Albion Ultrasteel or Joule S/steel - both great cylinders. The joule comes with lifetime warranty on the cylinder!

Unvented cylinder coupled with a system boiler would get rid of tanks in the loft. You would need an installer with a G3 ticket to install unvented and make sure you have balanced feeds to all bathrooms - otherwise you will get a drop in pressure when different taps turned on.

Most combi' won't cope with two or more bathrooms imo. For example if you have a hot water flow rate from the combi of 12lpm that's going to be halved if another hot tap is turned on - not great for a shower.

For both unvented and combi's the flow rate of your incoming mains needs to be measured to make sure it's suitable.

Get a quote from a recommended independent as well as BG - think you will be surprised at the price ;-)

We have a combi with 2 showers. They run fine at the same time but we have a gadget that reduces the water flow on the one unpstairs as DSs like to stand under it for a miliion years. Like this one

I have a Vaillant eco TEC plus 938 combi boiler sitting in the middle of the living room! Due to be fitted on Monday, plumber promises it can run three bathrooms as it has a built in hot water tank. Less than half the price BG quoted for same job.

you say your hot water cylinder runs out. This is unusual. What size and colour is it? Do you have the boiler running before and during running your bath? Or are you trying to heat it with an immersion heater?

How old is the house and how many bathrooms do you have?

It is useful to know how much water is delivered to your house from the main. Fill a bucket at the kitchen cold tap; time it; calculate how many litres per minute. Do the same at utility room cold tap and garden tap if you have them.

If you can see it, what colour and diameter is the incoming water pipe that goes to your stopcock?
