We have a large room, 17 ft ceilings, two huge sash Windows and fireplace.

We had a huge leak through ceiling and insurers have agreed to redecorate and replace floor.

i like mushroom/grey colours but worried it will be dingy.
Are there any colours you like?

We have Eygptian Cotton in one room, hate it. Looks like drying concrete. We also have Just Walnut which is a lovely soft grey. Hall and landing are in Porcelain Doll, a very pale grey that looks lovely against white skirting and ceilings.

iME Egyptian cotton in strong daylight, without any white trims (skirting /architrave etc) can look almost white - but when you add in brilliant white to the trims it's colour is more apparent ( and it's lovely IMO ) - if it's a will lit room ( natural light ) choose a slightly darker shade though - if it's not so will lit (ie north facing window ) then it should be a strong enough colour ....

So - it pretty much depends on the amount of daylight, in the room !

We have dulux polished pebble and in our room it's a lovely true grey rather than bluey grey or pinky grey that some are

Egyptian cotton is a lovely colour. Personally I preferred it in a light room.
Almond white is very nice too.

Just walnut vote over here too!

I've chalky downs 5 in my living room, it's lovely.

Btw Natural calico is the nearest colour to skimming stone if that's what you wanted.

Our room faces east (I think) and has large windows so it gets light but it's not a sunny room.

I like the Chalky Downs 5 - I looked it up and it also recommends accent colours - one is teal which is the colour of out fireplace tiles.

The other colours are lovely too and will get a selection of testers to try them out.
