Cracks on walls

I've been stripping wallpaper over the last few days and uncovered a few cracks in the plaster.

How do I know if they are scary, bad news cracks or just very old plaster which didn't enjoy being wallpapered over or a similar cause?

Most of them are hairline cracks running vertical, one goes from the ceiling to the top of a door frame.

We have had a loft conversion completed lately and there was a lot of banging around upstairs, could this have caused the cracks?

Any help much appreciated

Hairline cracks are not much to worry about. See here for some guidance.

Plaster doesn't last forever. We took our wallpaper off and half the plaster fell off (fun). I don't think it had been touched in 40 years. Hairline cracks aren't usually a sign of anything to worry about. Our new plaster has hairline cracks from where it dried and settled. We'll just fill and sand them.

Thanks all, that's what I thought.

Just had a minor panic as there have been a few crack related threats lately which have been all doom and gloom
