Aaaagh! We have to decide on the lighting layout for our new extension
. How do we illuminate a dining table the beneath the rooflight without ruining the precious and beautiful lines By plonking spots inside the void?

Is it a roof lantern with glazing bars? If so, you can disguise cabling in the bars and run a pendant or series of pendant lights from it but, if it's a run of unbroken glass, you would struggle to get any overhead lighting and would have to think about wall lights or large floor lamps.

Definitely think about this - we didn't and we have the second type of rooflight - ie glass roof. I generally hate wall lights but think that in this situation they would have been helpful. Its lovely and light in the daytime but really dark at night. We are now considering whether to add a floor light - eg oversized anglepoise type or some kind of add on wall light
