How to pick a floor to go it's oak kitchen

We're having a lovely new light oak shaker kitchen with a black or gunmetal grey Rangemaster cooker and darkish sink/work tops. We were thinking of an Amtico or Karndean floor in a wood effect as I think a darker tiled effect would look too dark across a kitchen/dining room/utility. The kitchen/dining room are being knocked through so thre will be plenty of light. How do I pick a floor? Do I go darker or lighter in a wood effect? No idea about wall colours and which colour for the Metro tiles were thinking of. Any help would be really appreciated.

I would avoid a wood (or wood-effect) floor, I think it will be overkill. Tiles would be my preference, probably dark grey/black and I would break it up with a really colourful rug in the dining area. I don't think dark colours are especially a problem though unless the room is unusually gloomy.

We can't have tiles due to our disabled son who regularly falls over so the Amtico would give a softer landing. Some type of dark tiled effect Amtico is the other option, its so hard to pick. Risk it looking like there's too much wood or alternatively looking too dark with a dark worktop, range cooker and flooring. Originally I'd thought about either white tiles or sage green but a bit confused about it all and need to order the floor soon.

OK, well in that case I would go for a darker lino with a rug. Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to choose different door fronts for your kitchen and have a wood floor if that is the finish you like?

Mm googling pictures there's a risk that oak units with a similar floor could look a bit like a naff sauna! So it looks like it's either the ordered oak units with a darkish Amtico floor or the oak effect Amtico with the painted version of our chosen units in off white. We'd avoided ordering painted oak units as our disabled son regularly throws toys and I worry it will end up chipped and needing touching up too many times to stay looking nice long term. I can tell myself that a few dents in a natural oak door are adding character! Has anyone else got any ideas please? My brain is frazzled with all the choice of flooring, colours, tiles.

I think a wood type floor would look great. Have you looked at Harvey Maria they have some lovely vinyl designs in woods and patterns

What about a lighter floor in one of the Amtico tiles? My thoughts are that if you are having wood units and a dark worktop you need a lighter floor to lift everything and stop it looking dated from the off.

Oh I'm totally baffled. Too many options. Help!!!

I would go to a reputable flooring company and ask for advice.

Now pondering on light natural oak doors with a dark grey/not quite black worktop that has a bit of variation in colour rather than just plain black. Then a dark sink to tone with the worktop and range cooker in either black or gunmetal. Amtico or Karndean flooring in some sort of tiled design, either a slate colour or a lighter coloured tile. Slate type colours would be easier to keep clean with two big dogs coming in and out off the garden but could possibly scratch easier. Maybe I'll have to train them into wiping their paws! Love olive and sage greens and not sure whether to use this the windowed wall or as a tile colour. As it will be a large room once knocked through, it would be too much with all the walls a sage colour.

We already have solid wood flooring in the hallway and playroom off the hall. The kitchen opens off the end of the hallway so wood effect flooring would probably look obviously different to the wood already down. I guess a proper contrast would look better and less like I've tried (and failed) to match. Any other suggestions please?

You have mentioned light coloured amtico tiles twice and I think that's the way to go. Even an off white would look great and then you can have a sage green rug if you want. Find a PIC you like on Google and copy that!

Out kitchen sounds similar to yours. We have pale stone tiles on the floor, which could be achieved with Amtico or Karndean.
The kitchen is already very light, but the light stone adds to the sense of space and enhances the oak units.
