Windows in alcoves

I was thinking about putting in fitted shelves and cabinets in our new front room but noticed it has these windows - what would you do with them? We could do the shelves anyway but would it look a bit odd, unless the books will hide them?

We once looked at boarding over a window internally and were advised to put a mirror in, facing out so that you couldn't see the window from outside that the window was boarded over. The alternative is bricking the windows up.

It depends what your style is, but if you like quirky, I'd make them part of bookshelves, i.e. remove the window cill, box around them to the same depth as your shelves, having lined up your shelves with the top and bottom of the window, and paint the same colour, then it would be like a bookcase with a view in the middle!

I think any other treatment, e.g. having them as part of a larger (non book-)shelf display or hanging pictures next to them etc. would look a bit odd, but making a feature out them by boxing in, and surrounded by loads of paperbacks would look fantastic.

Still not sure what to do, they are frosted type glass (like a bathroom) and am inclined to just board over and get rid of them completely.

dH has just noticed that the chimney breast is very shallow so may not be suitable for fireplace or alcove shelving!

I think you are all mad to want to board up windows ! I would restore the fireplace and leave the windows .

I'd shelve round them a bit like: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/a1/bb/55/a1bb554bf12840d84c2359cf2225a5fc.jpg

But on a smaller scale obviously. Attach shelving to wall, mall tub chair in from and you have natural light to read by.

mall tub chair in from
Translated to English is:
Small tub chair in front
