Agents are quoting £80 to fit a foam draft excluder

So my Dad's student flat needs a foam draft excluder to reduce the noise of the students slamming the door (neighbours have complained). The agents have quoted £80 + VAT to fit it. That seems steep, as a google search tells me it costs £5.0 per roll at B&Q. Am I missing something, or are they taking the mick? Is it easy to fit yourself? Thanks for any wisdom you can offer on this.

Yep do it yourself it's easy. I assume you mean the one with self adhesive?

I would suggest a door closer device on it rather than this. These devices mean that they can't slam the door - they are standard in many backpacker hostels due to the same problem. This will take a competent handyman an hour at MOST to fit.

check the door fits properly too, as it is just possible that they have to slam it to close it. But the mummy's ickle preshus syndrome is a more likely cause.

Thanks for the advice. SS I know what you mean about hostels- I stay in Youth hostels quite often. DH is good at DIY, maybe he could fit it.
Sorry to be dim but who is being precious- the students, or the neighbours? The door does close fine, there's no need to slam although you do have to insert the key and pull, possibly they don't bother, they just slam, this year they are 3 leery lads, from what I've seen. Maybe a brass "lip" under the keyhole they could pull, plus foam draft excluder would also do the trick?

Agreed but at the end of the day they probably won't and i don't want to antagonise the neighbours.

yep, that's what I think. The parents didn't train them, you've got no chance. Student houses need to be seriously bomb-proof. As you no doubt realise!

Well I'm slowly learning my lesson! Can't assume anything will be common sense to them.
