Cracking plaster

This weekend I stripped a wall of wallpaper - it's very very old, didn't even need a steamer it just came off. In areas the plaster came off with it and in other areas it's exposed some cracks in the plaster.

We were really hoping to not have to replaster the walls for now, would filling the cracks and holes be sufficient for now? The plaster is a funny grey colour, I've only ever seen red plaster before so not sure if that makes any difference

You need to see if the rest of the plaster will come away though. Tap it firmly and wherever it crumbles you need to scrape it out then fill it. If you can get something called quicksand and use a trowel to apply (very easy you just smear it across then scrape off excess). Quicksand is an amazing filler. If you try and just fill the cracks it will crumble away when you paint it.

I thought that might be the case but I was hoping I was wrong.
