Replacing single tiles in bathroom

I was just wondering if it's possible to remove and replace single tiles? We need to renovate our bathroom but apart from a handful of patterned tiles and a thin border the original tiles are perfect. Replacing the whole lot means completely gutting and re plastering and re-Tiling bathroom so wondering if we can get away with just removing and replacing the few we don't like?

It can be done, but you have to take off the tiles very careful so as not to damage the surrounding tiles. If they are at the top it is pretty easy, if they are in the middle then it is very difficult.

Have you thought of painting them instead?

Removing old tiles needn't mean replastering - I've had both kitchen and bathroom tiles replaced and replastering wasn't necessary.

You could remove them carefully, the new ones would have to be the same size as those you are taking out or it would look odd
