Quote for 10x8 carpet?

I need a carpet for DS (nearly teenage) bedroom which is 10x8.

I got a quote for £260 with underlay, fitting and removing old carpet.

Is this reasonable? - I really haven't a clue as not changed the carpets for a while.

No. I don't think that's a good price at all. The cost of the carpet is about £130 according to that site - and it's probably a bit inflated

I would expect to pay no more than £180 max for everything you describe. However, we have a very good carpet shop whom we've ordered a lot from so we do get a good discount.

Ask them to break down the cost so you can negotiate more

£180? Really? That's a good idea to get a breakdown. It's a shame as I haven't a clue of of what's reasonable. Do you know if the carpet would be of reasonable quality for the link?

It's a good practical carpet as it's polyprop.

We have wool on most of our rooms but polyprop in one DC's room and as our stair carpet as it can be cleaned with a mild bleach solution. We've got relatively expensive ones though so nice feel underfoot as they are quite thick (stair thinner for better wear). I'm not sure about the twist of yours - some of the cheaper ones can feel quite plasticky and rough. Have you felt it in person? If not, I see that site sends out samples

One thing - you have to be super careful with polyprop as straighteners etc on it will melt it!

What sort of underlay are you getting? We pay a lot for ours because the carpet is going down on very uneven floorboards so we need a good quality, thick, underlay. However, I would expect to be given a choice of underlays when I get the quote.

Seems fine to me. On top of the carpet cost you have underlay plus gripper rods and fitting. £180 would be a crazy price.

Gripper rods are very cheap (get your own off Amazon if the shop is charging a lot for them)

Underlay - again, I'm assuming you are getting cheapish underlay?

Fitting would take 1 hour max unless your room is a funny shape?

Redhat the underlay is in the cost, not sure how much it is. MrsMortis I'm not sure which one they are providing, will have to ask for that in the breakdown.

I'm in South London/Surrey borders Gobbolino it's a normal shape room so will be easy to fit.
