Recommendations for single matresses

Please can anyone recommend single mattresses as I am totally confused. I bought cheapish mattresses (I think around £250 each) about 5 years ago or so when children got new beds and were told they would be fine until adults. Children are now saying they are uncomfortable and to be fair I can feel the springs in them with my hand so they probably need replacing. This is a problem when you don't know what you are talking about and you just get "sold" something by salesman.

Can someone please suggest a make or even model of mattresses for replacing them which will last up the usual 7-8 years and are comfortable?

I don't think I want a memory foam for children/teenagers as not sure these are generally felt to be a great idea?

Have looked at John Lewis but some of the single mattresses are astronomically expensive (£1500?!!+)- what exactly do I need? here is a link to the page but happy to buy from anywhere (although possibly not the place I bought from last time!!)

We paid £120 for a single for my daughter from local shop. Think it's spring with a memory foam topper. It's is amazingly comfortable. We are going to replace our mattress with one too. Think mattresses only meant to last around 8 years anyway. We have had outs 10 and still seems ok.

its very comfortable and is thicker than what we thought it was going to be. we are happy with it.

It sounds like you have an open coil, I hated mine, they are noisy & uncomfortable,

We have just bought recently the Beaumont mattress from Laura Ashley. It is amazing (although we had been sleeping on a £99 mattress for 10+ years so anything was an improvement). I think its 50% off now, but I think it was 60% off when we bought ours (and then got a further 10% off by opening a store card). My friend who used to work there has had one for at least 5 years now and says its lasting very well.

I'd go for something with pocket springs. The higher the number of pocket springs, the more comfortable the mattress will be.

I Have had this problem in the past too, but found silentnight miracoil to be probably the best for us, not too badly priced and have lasted us so far in excess of 5 years, HTH!

Our adult sons both had Silentnight miacoil on their Dbl beds, before leaving home. Now they are used for guests and still going strong. I always use mattress toppers to make beds extra comfy.

Did you keep turning the mattresses ? That can make a difference with sprung ones.
