Buying the cooker long before the new kitchen

We've just moved into a new house and the cooker/oven broke almost immediately.

We do plan to put in a new kitchen and open it out a bit, but not for another two years (various other bits to do first including external structural type work).

When we get the new kitchen I'd love a big range style cooker- had one in our last home and was already missing it. New house has a single oven though so getting range would mean loosing cuboards. seems a shame to buy a single oven, though, when I know I'd like a bigger one soonish. So was thinking of getting a nice double one anyway, sacrifice the space and re fit it in new kitchen in due course.

Wanted to check if it's possible to do that (move/re fit an oven after a new kitchen fitted). If it's possible are there any practical points to consider?

I would think it's fine. Range cookers aren't built in so as long as there's room for one, and you can take existing cupboards out to squeeze it in, there shouldn't be an issue.

We did, the cooker in our new house was a complete pile of shit and eventually broke, we needed a new kitchen but have to apply for planning permission to change a window even though we're replacing hideous 1970's windows complete with dimples in the glass with exact copies of the 16th century originals (listed house) this takes a while to get it. So we decided where we were going to put the new cooker and bought it. It's been here since September and DH is doing the whole kitchen now (nightmare smiley). But it's a hand built kitchen so the cupboards don't need to be standard size which is good because the walls bend all over the place so do think about how it will all fit in if youre buying an off the shelf kitchen.
The only other thing I would say is that when we bought the house two years ago we did a plan as to how the kitchen would be and the sort of cooker which would fit; hob built in oven etc but after two years of living in the house we completely changed our view, have completely moved everything round and bought a range cooker which is wonderful I'm converted.

We got a super cheap second hand oven when we moved house to tide us over until we redid the kitchen. Could that be an option?

Yes a super cheap something might be the best option as have just realised the existing one isn't gas oven so assume we'll need to get a feed into kitChen and seems silly to feed into an area where we might not want the oven in the long run

If the current oven is a single electric one you might find it just plugs into a normal socket instead of being wired in - extra expense if you don't just buy a single electric oven to replace it for now.

We did this - got a kitchen fitter to remove some of the units, fitted the new range cooker plus cooker hood and metal splash back.

We also needed to get a gas man in to improve the gas supply, and an electrician to fit the hood and new plug, so be aware it can cost more than just the cost of the cooker.

And now - a year later - we're trying to sort out a kitchen. We've been v firm that the cooker stays put, but the planner keeps suggesting we move it 10cm left or right. (NO!)

Not sure if this helps. I adore my range cooker and would not have spent the last year without it.
