what makes a bathroom look "high end"?

Don't want to screw this up....My natural tendency is cheap n cheerful but I'm mindful of not putting in a mess considering we may have to sell at some point. How do I stop it looking dated in five years??

White, or monochrome... No mosaic tiles...?

Double sink? Were looking at curved suites, not sure if they'll date well.

I've been told off for being a tightass....git caught looking at used suites on eBay.

Just avoid the giant biege tiles and gold colour fittings. I'd go with white. Colour from towels and accessories are easily changed.

Metro tiles will probably date, but I am not sure how fast bathroom trends move. Agree about avoiding beige and gold. Grey is a current trend now. Avoid that too? I guess good quality white is your answer. Maybe with a black and white check floor?

When did the shaped shower/baths come in? The P or L shape ones. We ended up with one and I don't think it will date well and not sure they do much apart from making baths more expensive as so much more water required.

Hmmm, yes, agree on the p shaped baths....I'd like a walk in shower....we'll have to move a wall to increase the bathroom size, at the moment its 2.5x1.5 which is pretty small.

Mixing up tiles sizes makes it look more expensive imo ( and usually is a bit). And the texture, so some flatter, some corser.

I would put in a sink unit with build in storage and the same with toilet, have a built in unit. Looks cleaner lines and is easier to keep clean. Plus bathroom stays tidier with good storage

Plain & large. I'd do; double sink on marble topped vanity, double ended bath, large walk-in shower. Decent stone floor, plain large tiles, big mirror with lights inside it, simple chrome towel rail.

Add colour with towels & pictures and a blind.

Don't get the double sink thing I must admit.

Black and white floor tiles sounds nice and neither too trendy or too old-fashioned. Can't really go far wrong with white can you.

Heated mirrors above the sink. I curse DH and his 'a cost too far' attitude evey time mine steam up.

2 single sinks side by side are great in a busy morning. Yes to white and a huge walk in shower. Properly deep double ended bath too.

No pictures or candles or blinds. It's just unnecessary fuss and the opposite of high end.
Massive white towels, big mirror. Lots of chrome and clean lines really. Wall hung toilet with a hidden cistern if you can manage it. A large sink as opposed to a double.
I'd imagine big tiles would be a better option than metro or mosaics.

Don't put a black and white floor down - the very worst combination to keep clean and every speck of dust, every hair, etc will show up.

Whatever you choose, make sure you get a really good builder / plumber /decorator. You can get all the fancy tiles in the world but if they're badly grouted or you end up with a mysterious leak all your hard work is ruined speaks from bitter costly experience

cleanliness. So don't get those silly bowl on a table sinks, will be mucky in weeks. And why would anyone have two sinks, just more to clean in and around. Unless you are two elephants, you can share a sink for simultaneous toothbrushing.

think about layout too - no cabinet above sink if you'll bump your head, and if space allows not above the toilet either (splash...)

Basins and baths which encourage the water to drain back inside- rather than to just settle on the edges.

Decent storage. I am excited to finally have a basin with a vanity unit -so can keep everything in there. I hate to see bottles out on the sides.

Single basin would be enough surely? If you are tight for space then why waste floor space installing a double unit? can't think of anything worse than having to share bathroom time either

White tiles. We have just had a sand colour - and they look modern now - but imagine that they will look dated in 10 years.

Good quality white tiles and suite, good quality chrome fittings. Fully tiled - not this halfway tiled nonsense (that I have in my house!) - looks more expensive and wears better.

If its saleability you want rather than just something to live with then simple white is best. You can add colour with accessories.

A fully tiled white bathroom sounds high maintenance, though. It won't look 'high end' unless its spotless. Think of all the scrubbing of grouting .

Good storage is key, I think. Keep all the crap hidden.

simple and plain white and chrome. Expensive looking lighting, fluffy towels, large mirror and shiny clean, clean, clean.

Wall hung loo, wall hung vanity unit. Fully tiled (or up to picture rail height). Don'tu se shiny or fake stone tiles. Details: somewhere to hang dressing gown, recessed areas in shower for soap/shampoo.

tapirs you can get heated pads to retrofit to the back of any mirror.

good quality taps. In plain chrome, not gold, nickel, black or coloured. Matching hooks, towel rails, rings, shelves, mirrors, door handle.

The price you pay for the bath and sanitaryware make very little difference (but avoid cisterns with a button in the lid as they are annoying when if they go wrong.)

Unless you have a square arse, get a WC with a standard-shaped seat.

I like a double sink. One to wash hands, one to brush teeth.
