Weird groaning noise

Can anyone shed any light on this? weird noise heard a few times last night and tonight, originally i thought it was my 4 year-old having a bad dream moaning in her sleep, then possibly the noise of a badger/fox but tonight it seems more like a groaning, like a chair scraping noise - we're a semi and the neighbours haven't heard it. I'm not sure if I'm hearing it down the chimney and it's outside.

Roof / joist / something in the loft?

Probably just the wind around the eaves. Check the loft in daylight just to check there is nothing amiss, but it's probably nothing to worry about.

DD's house had a weird moaning noise when it was windy, sounded quite spooky! Tracked it down to one of the windows, had it resealed and no more noise.

it's very windy and our chimneys whistle and hoot.
sounds like wolf whistling sometimes
