Why is shower leaking?

Anyone have experience of a leaking shower? We have had 2 plumbers round. One said it was the sealant, so we redid that. The second said the tiles needed regrouting so redid that (both sealant and grout were already in quite good condition but still redid on plumbers' advice). DH had a shower this morning and it didn't leak but DS has just had one and once again it is leaking through the ceiling into the sitting room. Does anyone have any ideas?

Mine was leaking from the waste pipe, it had come loose from the plug hole

Clay I'm going through the same thing, see my post, i feel your pain. Have had 2 guys come round, 2 different opinions (leaking shower valve/ vs defective sealant+ blown tiles and water pooling behind tiles). Why can't they work out what's going on? Both want about £1700 to fix it. I am sick of it and am wondering if they think they can try it on because I am female. I am now looking at getting a 3rd opinion.
A Rurhpott says leaking pipes are another possibility.

I am also going through this and just forked out for a new shower screen - the water seems to be going behind the tiles as you can run the bath without a leak but run the shower and it pours into the kitchen Shock

Ruhrpott - what was the name of your thread couldn't seem to find it? Did you have to remove the whole shower to fix the waste pipe?

Whatabout - I completely agree with your comment about being female. I got quotes from female contractors for the damage to the ceiling - the two blokes that came said the whole ceiling needed to be taken down (women both said patching up would be fine) then the men never even sent their quote on to me. I would like to find a female plumber to have a look at the leak but not found one yet.

Pashmina - how is the water getting behind the tiles?

I didn't have a thread about it. It was last New Years Eve day, so a really good day for a leak!
We determined it was the waste by tipping water down the plug hole and watching it drip in the kitchen.
Anyway we tried for hours ripping up cover strips and flooring to get under the shower and couldn't as the people who owned our house before hadn't added any access. We then gave up on that idea.
I unscrewed the plug hole to have a look and pulled out the broken screw pipe attachment and then went to B&Q to buy a replacement connection bit (and a new pop up plug hole as the small plastic connector we wanted was only available in a pop up waste kit at B&Q). Then we pulled up the waste pipe through the plug hole (as far as I remember it was a concertina type pipe that we could pull up) and screwed the new connector piece to it and then put the new plug hole on. It's been fine ever since.
