Hi

Looking for good quality chrome door furniture for front door next to the sea. So needs to be quite robust! Any suggestions.

Ironmongerydirect have a big range.

Often the working parts (springs etc) behind the faceplate will be plain bzp steel and will benefit from a metal preservative spray. WD40 is better than nothing, but if there is a yottie shop near you they will have something better.

Consider brushed or satin Stainless steel, including the fixing screws, though a lot of the Chinese import metal will get corrosion spots and need rubbing off with a green nylon scourer. Remember to get stainless hinges and screws. Lift-off hinges are worth the extra.

btw I am on the coast and went for brass furniture. On the back doors, which face the weather, the lacquer wears off and it is rustically tarnished. For the front I have several sets, and swap them over when I feel like it. Smooth surfaces without fancy scrolling are easier to clean and polish.

I have used PVD hinges on the shed door, which are a brass-like plating on stainless steel, and are alleged to resist salt spray. Two years old so far and look fine. You need keyhole covered escutcheons with flaps or the locks will corrode.
