Tap head removal

I need to change the tap washer in my bathroom sink. I have traditional looking Bristan taps, about 3 years old. Removed the little cap off the top of the handle and then undid the little screw inside. I thought at this point I could just pull the handle off. But no, it won't come off. Any ideas please?

tap it upwards with a wooden spoon round the ears. It might be stuck with limescale. Give it a spray with a kitchen cleaner.

You can look at an exploded parts diagram to see how it goes together on the Bristan website. I recommend polishing up the internal brass parts with green pan scourer before reassembly. Lubricate with plumbers silicone grease if you can get it. it might need a new cartridge rather than a washer.

btw if a Bristan tap is dripping after only three years, it may be that the washer has been crushed by somebody screwing it down with excessive force.

Old people, and people who are used to dripping taps, often do that.

Don't forget to turn the water off
