Huge tile as splashback behind the oven?

Hi,

We'll have a 77cm induction hob.

I am thinking whether a 600*900mm tile would do the job as a splashback.
600mm would be the distance from the worktop to the cooker hood.
900mm the width. The rest would be kitchen paint.

A bit afraid of the glass being too gloss and hard to keep spotless.
Smaller tiles, more grout.
Stainless steel, not pretty.:)
Laminate and acrylic, not heat resistant (is it true?)

Will it work? (Tile being too heavy?) Will it look funny?

I'd prefer opalescent glass.

Have you already fitted the cooker hood?

I am anxious that a hood only 4'9" above the floor will obstruct your view of the hob, and you will bang your face on it.

Thanks, PigletJohn. No, the extension is still being built. No kitchen yet.

The current old hood is 63cm above the worktop and it is not a problem for us. We are not at all at the tall end. :)

There are also 900*900 tiles, if more distance is needed. :)

Just check whether it is possible to do that, or has anyone done that, and if so, how good is it?

Thanks!
