Sofa from John Lewis, Laura Ashley or Sofa.com - any recommendations?

If anyone has any recommendations or reviews of any of these sofas I would love to hear them - I am stuck wavering between all of them! Admittedly the Laura Ashley one is new to the list as I haven't actually seen it in the flesh. My friend has the sofa.com one and loves it and I have sat on it plenty of times at her place. Sat on the John Lewis one in store the other day and it seemed great too.

Any advice on foam / fibre / feather for seats and cushions also appreciated...

We've had a laura ashley sofa for a few years and it's going strong - although it's not the one we sit on most. If you're buying from them don't buy at any old time - they have 30% off and 50% off home sales about every other month!

Yep they have a sale on at the moment which is what alerted me to them! Thanks for the feedback!

We have the Bluebell and it is really comfy, both to sit on and lie on (maybe you haven't had a lie down at your friend's house!). I have to plump the top cushions of mine because they are feather filled and my dog likes to lie on the top of them, but they go back into shape easily.

Thanks fruit. What kind of fabric is your bluebell? I am looking at the brushed linen cotton (which is what my friend has) as it's so soft, but she doesn't have kids, while I have two of the buggers, plus a dog!

Thinking about going for the moss green colour if I am brave enough to deviate from beigey neutral.

Mine is house linen cotton in a boring neutral colour. We really wanted a red but they don't do a true red, only orangey red or pinky red. The Moss green is very nice. The fabric has worn well so far- 4 years of lots of visitors and a puppy. I'd like to blame the children for the spills, but it is usually adults sloshing their drinks around! We got the fabric protection and have only had to do a serious stain removal job once.

My mum has the bluebell in charcoal grey brushed cotton. It is lovely- so comfy!

We had a sofa.com bluebell in our last rented flat and liked it so much that we bought one for our new house! It is really comfy and good for lying on (maybe too good as I am forever falling asleep on it).

Ours is moss green brushed linen cotton as they suggested that material was best for dogs (we plan to get a dog but haven't yet so can't really comment on whether it was a good choice. I know they use brushed linen cotton for their dog beds which made me think it must be a good bet)

We have the Stella corner sofa in charcoal cord fabric. We got it 5 years ago and despite 2 teenagers and a puppy who is now 3, it still looks good. Feathers are a little annoying. The dog spends most of his day lying across the back watching out the window!
I have been looking at the Bluebell to replace our 17+ year old sofa in the kids lounge.
Great service too, I'd recommend them.

helentheheron · 28/09/2015 20:02

Oh, and we have feather, which does need 'plumping' (our previous flat had plumping the cushions once a week written in to the contract Hmm) but is very comfy. They guarantee that all their feathers come from dead birds rather than the horrifying practice of live plucking.

Bananajam · 28/09/2015 20:04

Ive just checked again and it's actually Mouse Corduroy - very comfortable, we did get the fabric protection and have thrown the covers through the washing machine and they've come up well.

lisbapalea · 28/09/2015 20:26

Ooh you've all made me feel very excited about the bluebell! Will wait to get the moss green swatch but providing I don't hate it I think we will go for it!

Thanks all.

We've had 2 sofas and a bed from sofa.com I cannot rate them highly enough, their customer service is amazing.

Ask them about your choice of fabric and use in a family with small kids - they told me velvet was the least hardy/most liable to damage and that we should get the 'guardsman' treatment on the fabric we did choose.

Andcake · 28/09/2015 20:58

Has anyone had a sofa bed from sofa.com are they as good?

dontcallmelen · 28/09/2015 21:29

Another vote for the bluebell sofa, we have the house linen/cotton in the beigy/grey colour, really comfy yy to plumping up the cushions only takes a few minutes, and look as good as new.
Customer service is brilliant and they usually have the bluebell in the beigy colour in stock.

We have had our Laura Ashley sofa for 20 years (although we brought it up to date by having it reupholstered in a more fashionable colour than the Royal Blue I chose in the 90s. When we looked around we decided we still liked our Laura Ashley Langham (they still do it). It was cheaper to have it reupholstered than buy new and indeed the framework etc is still as good as new 20 years on.

I went to sofa.com at the weekend & lay on lots of sofas and was given a good cappuccino. It's definitely worth going to the showroom to try out.

I've gone for the Saturday in a grey/blue called Loch in brushed linen cotton.
It seems a bit of a dull colour but I'm hoping it will be OK.

I so love sofa.com. We've got one of those big ottoman footstool things in a light grey herringbone and it's divine. We are ordering two bluebell sofas and one Avalon sofa from there for our new house. Compared to somewhere like Multiyork, it's awesome value - I'm talking about half the price for the same thing!
