Buying a flat near a gas storage tank

Would having a view from the balcony of a gas storage tank put you off buying a beautiful flat ? The flat is really high spec and in a small seaside town , but I think it will have an effect on the resale value , dh disagrees.
What do you think ?

do you mean Canvey Island, or do you mean a domestic tank?

Not a domestic one for one house. It is one of the tanks that stores gas for lots of houses, the tank is in the middle of a metal structure and goes up and down depending on how much gas there is in it. It is huge.

What sort of gas? I lived near a laboratory with a huge nitrogen tank outside once, the noise of the bloody thing drove me bats (the cooling required is obviously quite a bit for nitrogen!). If a small silent tank then just how hideous is it? If most of the view is nice then it's no big deal, but if most of what you can see is gas tank then that would put me off.

Ah, I'm leaning towards your point of view! If you like the flat, get it, but get them to knock the price down :)

Is it still in use? I thought they were mostly being decommissioned now - so you might not have to look at it for much longer hopefully.

If you are in the UK, the gasholder will probably be decommissioned and demolished soon, unless it is listed as of architectural importance for our heritage. If you write to National Grid or the Residents Association they will probably know what is planned.

Good idea to write to the national grid, as flat is in UK , I have no idea where I would get hold of the residents association contact details though. Thanks for all the feedback .
