Pop up basin thingy won't stay down.

I have one of those plug things that you just push for it to go up and down, it's not the type that has a separate lever. I just wondered if it's something that I can replace myself from the top, rather than having to access underneath which would be tricky. I'm a bit worried about the cost of getting a plumber out for such a small job. I've looked on YouTube, but I can't see anything similar. Any advice would be appreciated.

It may be the same as ours. It sometimes comes a bit unscrewed so it doesn't have enough room to 'pop' if you see what I mean. You have to screw it back in again. Maybe....

It's not that unfortunately Crosby, but I know what you mean. I've just dismantled it and have taken a bit out so that a rubber bung will work temporarily. I did get it to stay down, but then it wouldn't pop up, which is even worse.
