Dishwasher not working

Our DW is making all the right sounds, clearly taking in water, draining out but it is not actually spraying water around inside

Any ideas what is likely to be wrong?

(it is 15 yrs old so I am not going to shell out $ for a man to come out and look at it, it's DIY or die)

Are the little holes in the sprayer arm things clogged up? I'm always pulling out slivers of food from ours. You can usually unscrew the arms and give them a blast under a tap.

I would be odd for all the holes in both arms to clog at the same time, unless seriously neglected. I think it uses the same pump to empty that it uses to squirt water through the arms, so there is probably an electric valve that has failed. I know how to change a pump but not the valve. It might be underneath, or behind the left hand panel.

I could be wrong so wouldn't buy a part before confirming. You might get an idea of price on www.bosch-home.co.uk/store/spareparts/search

If money is tight, you can pick up used dwrs very cheap on ebay, because most people are not strong enough to lift them into a hatchback and lie it on its back (not front). It takes two burly women. If you have the strength, you can take the old one to the tip. Water will come out of the grey hose.

You could look through the videos on the espares site to see if there's one offering relevant advice. They are very clear and easy to follow though the particular one you need might turn out to demand skills or equipment that you don't happen to have. Definitely worth a look.

Thanks all

I don't think the holes are clogged, it failed to spray any water whatsover
DW tablet wasn't even damp

The pump in / out is working just not the spraying water around

It has already had a new door handle and detergent dispenser previously so unless it's a quick/easy fix then I think we'll be replacing it

Pump fan sounds blocked - I had same symptoms, a piece of lego was blocking it (don't ask! apparently quite common).

I'm not sure how to fix it DIY, as we had an engineer under warranty. It was an easy fix for the engineer.

Thanks, I think I've decided to call it a day and buy a new one
