I've got two sets of stairs in a maisonette, one straight staircase running from a small entrance hall up to the first floor and then a second winding staircase that runs from the first floor up to the loft, turning 180 degrees.
The entrance hall on the ground floor has grey walls (f&b manor house grey) and the stairs are painted white at the edge, with a black handrail.
On the first floor, three walls are grey but one wall a dark blue (Hague blue) and then upstairs on the second floor one of the walls is white. There are rooms leading off the first floor: living room with medium turquoise blue (stone blue), bedroom with yellow (babouche) and study with off white (white tie). On the second floor there's a loft room with grey (cornforth white) and white walls.
The landing between the first staircase and second has dark wood floor and a rather lovely Persian runner, with a cream background and floral pattern with brown, green, grey and pale blue.
So I'm not sure what colours to go for in the new runners for the two staircases? Grey would be the easiest option but then when you come in through the front door, all you'll see is grey - grey walls, grey carpet. Ideally I'd like to do a ruby red on the stairs that go from ground to first floor, and then grey with a herringbone texture on the loft staircase, but would the red be too much when you come up the stairs and then see the yellow bedroom and blue living room?
Any thoughts/opinions/suggestions MUCH appreciated. Thank you!
