PigletJohn Help - Vaillant Boiler

Hoping you can help pigletjohn or anyone.
Just moved into a house and there is a Vaillant Thermomax Plus 824e installed. Its about 10 years old and the instructions show that a timer should be on the front, but mine seems to have just a blank panel. Don't all boilers have timers?
Am I missing something really obvious?
Pic attached.

What is the little square thing with four buttons and a display window?

Perhaps it has a separate programmer fixed to the wall. It is quite usual. It might have a programmable thermostat, which is excellent.

Some eccentric people refuse to have timers, programmers or thermostats fitted to their heating. They are often quite elderly and like to manually switch it on an off like an electric fire. This is very inefficient.

Make an appointment to have it serviced and ask the engineer to see if there are controls wired in that you have not noticed.

I especially recommend the Honeywell CM907 programmable thermostat, which includes a very flexible timer.

my one is the same, i found a honeywell console which you could set the times on in the airing cupboard.

I have the same boiler, ours came with a wireless thermostat (doesn't work anyway) so I've just been manually turning the boiler heat up and then down to the bottom (off) when I need it. Have just bought a new wireless thermostat though, need to get it fixed now

Does the blank panel open?

You can buy the timer separately and fit it yourself, there's digital and analogue
