Sofa Configuration Problemo

Can anyone suggest a solution?
We currently have a 2seater leather sofa under our lounge window and a 3 seater purple velvet sofa at right angles to it on a long wall.

We had thought about a leather corner sofa and an occasional chair but tricky to find a big enough one within our budget and that's the right measurements. DH now wants a 3 piece leather suite but I think two armchairs plus a 3 seater sofa will be too bulky for a narrow lounge.

I think a big three seater plus one armchair and possibly a Danish style occasional chair would be better.

What does anyone think?
I'll pop a couple of pics on....one of style I want and one of my current lay out.

The current two seater leather sofa would then go in the conservatory.

I think your idea is better, but then I don't like the matchy matchup sets. It's nice to mix it up a bit and with separate chairs you have the opportunity for flexible seating arrangements

I think it works as it is - why get something new? I would possibly move the two-seater to the other end of the room so it's not blocking the window and (perhaps) a radiator and also wouldn't be side onto the doorway. Spend some of the money you have saved on pictures for the wall Grin.

I'm in the middle of sorting the pictures Grin.
I just don't think the purple sofa goes with the brown leather? Plus the cats tear the fabric sofas up.....that's why we decided upon leather.

Plus, the room is too long to put the leather sofa at the other end.....there is a door on the right to the conservatory and a sideboard and dresser at the far end of the lounge.

How many people do you need to seat regularly?

I am in the same position as you - need to furnish our narrow living room with bay window which currently has a two seater in the bay and a matching three seater along the wall.

I hate hate hate with a passion those corner jobbies with a sticking out bit on one end. Would much rather have conventional furniture.

So we are getting a very small modern two seat sofa (one of those habitat ones on legs with buttons in the back) for the bay and I am lobbying hard for the Ikea Stockholm in green velvet for the main sofa. We are a family of two adults and two teens and actually we very rarely need to seat 4 people in the living room (everyone off doing their thing all the time and dh working away a lot) so if two people feel a bit too cosied up on the small 2 seater in the bay occasionally, so be it. They can always sit on the floor!

Thanks Mintyy. I like that look too. Anything newt and simple.....this

For me,come thing like the above in a chair version for the window space and a brown leather sofa would be fine. DH disagrees but he doesn't really have much interior design knowledge....other than tech stuff. But.....he likes to have a say in it all and drive me nuts!

We have two children....teen and ten yr old and then me and DH so rarely have to seat more....other than family gatherings. However, have two small leather tub chairs in the kitchen family room so could pull those through if need be.

OP I love that sofa you've linked to but - there's no support for the neck and head. I tried numerous similar designs and they were all the same. Uncomfortable for more than a short time.

Verbena37 · 06/09/2015 08:16

Yes that's true wowfudge. I just quickly linked as an example.
I've never had such a of a problem before. It's really annoying.
