Replace cast iron guttering.

There is a split in our cast iron guttering. I could do with some advice. Firstly, what tradesman do I need to attach a new one, roofer, builder or what? And secondly, will the whole terrace's gutter need to be replaced, or can the section on our property be replaced independently? TIA

Depending on where the joints are, you can replace just your bit. Sometimes a joint will be on a neighbour's property so you need to have a look. If the guttering is old, and you want the new to look the same and fit in with the existing, then be prepared to shell out quite a bit. We used a guttering specialist and I think you may need the same if you want an exact match. Can you find some web sites with heritage guttering and see if they are the same as you have? They would often fit the guttering for you because you do not want any leaking joints and it needs to be the same size and profile as the existing.

Plastic may be an option if you do not care about the original look and the property is not listed but making a suitable join with the neighbour's gutters may present a problem. Take advice from a builder if you are happy with plastic.
