refurbishing a conservatory

Has anyone replaced one of those polycarbonate conservatory roofs with a new glass roof or with lightweight tiles? How much does it cost and how long did it take? Was it good as an upgrade, or should I just pull it down and start again? I would prefer a contemporary looking orangery but this is a 'Victorian' style octagonal conservatory and it has to be that way because of the shape of the garden, so I need to stick with the basis that we have. Just want to upgrade it as a living space, so warm, functional and smart, and make it look less old-lady-ish.

My gran plasterboared the underside of the roof. It looked really effective. More of a room and not as hot! Maybe a mixture with some light?

I would get a conservatory company to look at it - if it only has a poly carbonate roof it is probably not built strongly enough to take the weight of a glass roof and you could end up with more problems.
