Tips for storing sofa in garage

Sofa won't fit in new rented house - we'd like to keep it for the house we buy but not worth paying for storage given we don't know it will fit in our eventual house. Am I mad to think we may be able to store it in our garage for 12m+? Any tips on how we can best protect it? TIA

only if your garage is very draughty but still dry. And still no guarantee against the mice putting their feet up.

sell it. Get replacements on ebay when you get the new house.

I would wrap it up completely in heavy duty polythene and out it on pallets so it is raised off the floor of the garage.

Have to agree with special subject. Had a detached garage in last but one house. Had v nice armchair but put it in garage when we changed the decor prior to moving. Got it out again only after about 4 or 5 months to photograph for Ebay when I decided it wouldn't go in new house anyway. Had wrapped it very well in dust sheets and bubble wrap although it wasn't on pallets. It would appear that mouse / mice had got through all that & been lounging in it / on it and eating / chewing the stuffing.

Do you have a spare room / bedroom it could go in? I'd be wary of any sort of living thing (whether it be mice or insects) that could get into it whilst it was in the garage.

Eeek I hadn't thought about mice! I was just worried about damp. I don't think any amount of wrapping/pallets etc will stop mice if they want to get in

We stored the seats from our van in the garage for a few days... and when we went to reinstall them, we had to evict a family of mice that were living in the stuffing.

So I would say... sell the sofa, and replace it when you are ready.

I know, I'm only replying with the benefit of hindsight!

sorry... it is never worth paying for storage for more than a few months. And if you do, it must be a climate-controlled warehouse not a container.

We had all our stuff in just such a warehouse for five months between houses, and it all came out immaculate. The chair seats that I had stupidly left in a shed (admittedly for much longer) did not survive.

I did get lucky with long term storage in an attic, but it was very draughty in there. We did have some mice but they only seemed to touch plastic bags. I wouldn't recommend chancing it, and of course this wasn't sofas.
