Where to live by the sea?

I've always wanted to live by the sea especially as my hometown is a far away from the coast as is physically possible! Im finally at a point where its a move i can make in the next year or so, but I have no idea where is actually nice. I only really know of Devon, Brighton, etc and I don't want to live in the south (too hot!). What I want is:

  • Within half an hours drive of the sea (ideally walking distance though - I'd love to be able to see the sea from my window!)
  • Not in the south of England (although not in Scotland ideally as my whole family is based between Derbyshire and London)
  • out in the countryside, a village on the outskirts of a "naice" town? Basically just a nice area that isn't urban.
  • not heaving in summer and yet dead in winter.

The line of work I will (hopefully) be in is needed all over the country so I don't need to be within x miles of a major city.
Im horsey, with my own which will be coming with me, if that makes any difference!
Can anyone think of somewhere like that?

Northumberland has a fantastic coast line, very good for horses. There are always horses riding along Bamburgh beach.

Some nice areas just inland of Southport (Tarleton, Eccleston, Bispham green all rural and lovely). Near Whitehaven you'd be in the Lake District - but that is fairly seasonal.

Both on other sides of the country haha! But useful to know so I can have more options open work wise.
I'm guessing as rural both areas are quite safe? I have anxiety and no doubt will be living on my own so I wouldn't cope if I didn't feel safe Blush
