Does this sound like a lot for a bathroom refit?

Quoted £11,000 for main bathroom and downstairs loo refit. The suite in both is Ideal Standard - shower, basin, loo and bath upstairs with basin and loo downstairs. Half tile and replace floor upstairs plus skim, walls and ceiling, with floor tiles and splash back basin tiling downstairs.

Breaking down the quote it looks as though it's around £4000 labour and£7000 materials.

I like the company and think they'd do a good job - but this feels expensive to me, is it? They're an independent bathroom retailer.

I was quoted £6k by a very cheap but reliable one man band plumber in the North to do a bathroom refit including knocking bathroom and separate toilet into one. A cloakroom with me buying the loo, sink and tiles cost around £1600 - his bill was £1100 I think, though some of that was for tiling the hall. So actually I think from a company with overheads and more up market fixtures and fittings that's not outrageous but it is doable for less.

For 2 rooms, that looks ok; about what I would expect to pay.

We had our bathroom done in 2007, cost about £9k. That was with us getting the bath etc from local suppliers and using a local handyman to install it.
In 2009 week had a shower room done by a bathroom company. That cost about £6k.
We are in South East.

I've been quoted 3k by local plumber to install new bath, shower, toilet and washbasin incl new led spotlights. Not including bathware. I'm in London but looking at your quote this feels steep.

I was quoted 2k not long ago. 800 pounds for the bathroom, 1200 pounds for the work. I thought that was too much. I live in the Midlands. 11k is silly money, they would be laughing all the way to the bank.

Although the quote isn't specific in terms of tile costs I feel this is probably a big part of the cost so I'm going to speak to them next week about me supplying our own, I'm happy with pretty standard tiles whereas the ones they've included in the quote are good quality.

Very similar to what I paid this year for a very similar job. I cut it down by not getting such expensive tiles but stuck with them for sanitary ware (Ideal standard & am v pleased with it). And am vvv pleased with the whole job.

I've just paid 4.5k to install a bathroom but that included moving it upstairs to a room that was a bedroom. Then 2k on top for sanitary wear etc. Outer London, expensive ish area.

I think it sounds expensive but not ridiculous. That is quite alot of labour and depending on the expense of fittings / tiles then it is not extortionate. I'd be looking for an itemised quote - if you're not precious about tiles / some elements of the sanitary ware / taps etc there are great deals to be done online.

My parents paid £6.5k for theirs, including new electric shower, suite, units for loo and basin, tall storage unit, removing old suspending ceiling, plasterboarding and skimming ceiling, full tiling and karndean flooring. We thought that was too much, but they liked having one company source everything and fit it for them.

We're having ours done at the moment for over £2k less. I've sourced very nice tiles direct from the manufacturer myself which saved a huge amount of money. One man band bathroom guy.

Just asked my DH (plumber) he seems to think it's difficult to say if expensive or not as depends on what needs doing, how long it would take. Whereabouts are you? We're near Worcester if you would like another quote! ????

I'm going to speak to them about supplying my own tiles and also get another couple of quotes for comparison. Trying to weigh up booking someone I trust to do a good job with not bankrupting myself...
