Firewall in the loft

We need to build a firewall in the loft as there isn't one which causes a fire problem but also means we can access each other properties.

We offered to pay and issues a party wall notice the cost of the wall is approx £500. They are insisting on a surveyor costing £1200 which seems crazy as we are building a mutually beneficial firewall!

Just trying to work out if there is another way to build the firewall without having to have an unnessersary surveyor happy to just build something on our side of needed. Has anyone any experience of similar?

How can the surveyor's costs be so high? It strikes as daft for them to request a surveyor because, as the firewall is mutually beneficial, they could well end up with a bill for half the cost of the actual works.

Did you discuss the issue of not having a firewall before you issued the party wall notice?

We had discussed there not being one before but we are having our roof replaced as well which makes putting the firewall in much easier.

I didn't realise at the time that we could just build a fireproof cement board wall on our property so not causing a party wall issues so wa may go down that route.

Surely if they want the surveyor then they pay for the surveyor?
