Good quality used furniture

I've been looking at ebay and gumtree for used sofas, chairs and realise it's a bit hit and miss and suppose it's a matter of timing of what's available at a given moment.

Are there other sites that I might use to widen the net? vintage, antique (online) shops could also work for some of the things I need.

Do you have a local antiques shop/village? We are in the NW and went to the Levenshulme Antiques Village (basically just an odd collection of antiques shops) and got amazing quality furniture. Solid mahogany chests of drawers, wardrobes etc for the same price as Ikea. They delivered for free too. I'm sure there must be similar places dotted around the country.

And do have a look at furniture recycling charities. Sometimes, there is a gem.

Our whole house was furnished for about a grand, and you'd never tell.

Preloved is ok, there are selling groups on FB which will be local to your area (I have used these quite alot).

I would say eBay but you need to set up email alerts and be patient. Things always come up but not always immediately.

I won a B&Q light this week for £5.50. I collected it so no postage costs. It was brand new in the box. B&Q are still selling the same light for £62. Chuffed to bits...

Can you find a local auction? We picked up some great bargains at ours. You can normally go and have look at the stock before the auction to see if there's anything you want to bid on. Many auctions also list stock on the internet. Remember to set yourself a top price before bidding starts. Also, if you're looking at wooden furniture, ask the staff to pull piece away from the wall so you can check the back for woodworm

eBay is always my first port of call - although when we were looking to replace our £2000 Rangemaster oven after selling ours with our house a few years back we found one in vgc on preloved for £300 when they were going for £800+ on eBay......

Tbh, most of our furniture was found on eBay - we've been buying there for over ten years and have found everything from amazing chunky curtain poles we paid a few £££ for right up to an antique sideboard that cost 4k - in fact when it comes to our furniture you could count the items that didn't come from there on one hand!

It depends if you're in a rush though - as arnie said it requires patience as the right thing may take a while to show up, but alerts do often bring results.

The Saleroom.com has most auction houses listed and you can bid online in most of those too......

Ebay and local facebook selling pages especially if you are in a 'nice' area. There can be some lovely furniture on ours. You could join just for the furniture.

etsy has some nice used furniture on there.

I find Gumtree good for sofas. I have bought two from there and both have been great.
And ebay.
But both are quite time consuming.
