Is a bath a necessity?

I'm currently planning how our new house will be bathrooms wise. Upstairs we can either have an en suite and a small shower room or one massive room. Downstairs we can either have a lovely walk in shower but no bath or a shower over bath

I'd love 2 shower rooms upstairs and a walk in shower downstairs but that would mean no bath. We haven't got children yet but want them and we wouldn't be moving before then.

We have a bath no and I think it's been used once in 3 years
What would you do?

Definitely need a bath with children.

Also useful if you ever get a hamster. They can run around in it while you clean the cage out!

I don't suppose you need a bath, I think baths can be unusual in other countries and I'm sure they manage with DC.

I wouldn't have a house with no bath with children.

Also will make it harder to sell in the future.

We use the bath for the children. They didn't like showers when young. Plus much easier for washing their hair and practical things like dumping wet bed sheets etc after accidents

Definitely, even if you shower mostly there are times when it's just a bath that will do.
If you have small children one is pretty necessary.
I wouldn't have a house without the option.

Why do you need so many showers, you can only use one at once?

Wouldn't buy a house without a bath (with children) unless the price reflected that I would need to put one in. I am the exception to the norm, I hardly ever shower, always bathe. Would be a dealbreaker for me.

Would you go for
A) en suite to master, shower room upstairs and bathroom with shower over downstairs

B) bathroom with shower over downstairs and a larger shower room upstairs - if this option would the shower room be an en suite or separate, one other small bedroom upstairs

I know we don't need 3, we're just aware that people are looking for houses might have big families so trying to make the house have as much value to others as possible

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath ,but then i also wouldn't want a downstairs bathroom .

Think I'd have a massive room upstairs, with a lovely shower and a bath in it. Or at least plan the rooms so a bath could be retrofitted.

I'd have a family bathroom with shower over bath upstairs. If you can squeeze an ensuite in too then all well and good but the priority should be a decent sized family bathroom.

I'd have a small shower room downstairs if you have the space, but I don't think showers / bathrooms downstairs work at all really, you just need a loo and a sink. I'd therefore use the downstairs space as living space / utility etc.

So there will be master bedroom and single bedroom upstairs, and 3 bedrooms downstairs eventually (when we've finished doing the work, it's a loft conversion and a full refurbishment)

Have you gotta boiler that can feed 3 showers? If not why bother? You need a bath.

Personally would have a sheet downstairs and bath upstairs. Better for children to have a bath upstairs and shower downstairs would be used for washing after exercise / gardening (at least in this house it would)

En suite only if you really need one. No one likes to wash in a poky room with no natural light which makes your bedroom damp and stinky. Having said that, ours is massive with a full size window, bath and separate shower, so that's ok.

I'd never buy a house without a bath. Three hours in the bath on Sunday afternoon with a book and a bottle of wine is an absolute MUST.

Haha ok so we will defiantly keep the bath downstairs with a shower over. If we didn't have bedrooms downstairs I wouldn't worry so much about a bathroom down there but give that there are it seems sensible.

Good point about the boiler. I suspect we would never have 3 running at once.

It's just what to prioritise upstairs, statement bathroom or 2 smaller shower rooms

So when you say downstairs, do you mean on the first floor, so:
Top floor; master and single
Middle floor: 3 bedrooms
Ground floor: Living accommodation

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath just so I had the option.

Our DCs shower, they hate baths, DD 20m will in fact have a shower 4 times a day some days as she won't let you go in alone if she catches you or yu utter the word shower!

No, it's currently a 2/3 bed bungalow with a bathroom. We're converting the loft adding two bedrooms, one being master and second single bedroom.

If it was a choice between a bedroom/kitchen/ tv/ garden etc etc etc - the bath would win every time.

(and that's got nothing to do with the children. There are some times when only a long bath will do.)

The en suite and upstairs shower room would be 2.2m x 1.7m

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath, that's just a must.

I also despise en suites, so I would opt for statement family bathroom, maybe with two side-by-side sinks for family teeth brushing. (I once viewed a house with two sinks and now I really want that).
