Power shower help

Have got to replace our electric shower as it is broken, just wondering fi anybody knows if i can change to a power shower instead to give us some oomph when having a shower. Does anybody have any a Triton one and if so it is it any good. In an ideal world would have a walk in shower but don't have the funds so it has to go above the bath.

have you got a hot water cylinder and a cold tank in the loft? What size are they both?

Yes to both , don't know what size they are but look quite big. At moment we had a triton 8.5kw shower do power shower come in wattage ? Thank you for your help as Dh is pretty useless with Diy

the size is important because because a power shower is a pump and might suck the tank dry and/or use all the hot water out of the cylinder.

The cylinder will remain full of cold water after you have used all the hot, because of the way the pipes are connected it cannot be emptied from a tap, so it will just stop supplying once the cold tank is empty.

Running a power shower pump when dry will damage it.

Look at the tank. It might have the capacity embossed on the side, or on a paper label. If not, measure hxwxd.

p.s. power showers or shower pumps have no heating element so use little electricity.

You can buy a separate pump and use a shower mixer, or you can buy a combined device which contains both. The pump will make some noise and vibration and can be fitted in a convenient place such as under the bath or in the airing cupboard, or sometimes in the loft. To reduce noise it is useful to fix it to a substantial board and isolate it with rubber feet or a foam pad.

I can vouch for the amount of hot water a power shower uses. We replaced a conventional hot water shower with one and it empties a standard hot water tank in 20 minutes even with a massive 40kw boiler constantly refilling the tank.

Dh has now decided just normal shower as we have 2 teenage daughters who spend hours in the shower as it is, that we can't take the risk of them running it dry. One day I get a nice shower when they have moved out.
