Utility room ideas

We are converting a shed into a utility room ( no space indoors but just three steps from the kitchen door at the back for a mad dash if it is raining) it is a blank space at the moment so I can do what I want (within reason) what are your top tips? I'm having washing machine and tumble dryer, large sink, anything else? Any suggestions for units, flooring etc? Thanks awfully

I have used the ikea stuva units in my utility room. You can mix and match draws, small and large cupboard doors, and have a good choice of shelf placements. If you are feeling brave you could use all multi coloured doors for a funky look! They are not too deep and feel nice and solid.

Get yourself on Pinterest and have a good nose about. There are people on there who have turned the utility room into an art form.

One big long peg rail, it is always much easier to hang things up than put things away on shelves. I'm getting one from Jali who will do one made to measure.

Somewhere to hang things up to dry if they can't go in the tumble dryer. Space for ironing?

Thanks everyone. I have not managed to work out Pinterest but will have a look.

I sometimes go into google image and look for ideas

I am planning on making the top drawer of the utility a pull out ironing board

I bought a wall iron stand last week in ikea

Also looking for some ideas. I do like open shelving and retro tins for powder etc

Maybe a washing basket with three dividers? Lakeland heated drier (I am thinking of a wall mounted one as we only have a small space)

But if space is limited. This, possibly a Sheila maid too (which hangs from ceiling) so there is a basket for each member of the family - can be folded straight into baskets.

Mandy thanks for the photos - I'm being inspired by this thread too. Can you tell me where they are from so I can pin/bookmark them myself? Thanks.

www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10177178/?sa=X&ved=0CBYQ9QEwAGoVChMIw5ClkZf3xgIVQjwUCh2GewR-

i have three of these on the wall above washer/dryer/sink and they have been brilliant - particularly with football kit!

as it is self contained i wouldn't have doors on units as it is so much easier with drawers/open shelves

A tall cupboard for the ironing board and brooms and mops and a place for the vaccuum cleaner like this one

pinterest search

AyeAmarok · 25/07/2015 22:38

I love those utility room ideas MrsPink

ChablisTyrant · 25/07/2015 22:42

We have a tall cupboard for mops, Hoover, ironing board. Storage for cleaning stuff. A sink and hanging Sheila maid. Stacked washer dryer. And cubbies for our wellies etc.
I didn't manage to fit in space for laundry baskets to go in drawers. That would have been nice.
We used Pinterest but haven't achieved the beauty some have there!

Iagreewithmrsdevere · 26/07/2015 15:08

Right definitely getting tall cupboards then and will at your other ideas when the DCs are asleep. (Hopefully that does not mean 3.30am like last night...)

Some great ideas here...does anyone know what all you need to be able to stack your washing machine & tumble dryer?

ChablisTyrant · 26/07/2015 20:13

Google your make on the Internet. They stack with a metal plate in between to fit them together. But the plates are specific to machine make. And some don't stack!
