So, I can't find any recent info on this area.

Looking on rightmove it seems to have a nice variety of period properties with large gardens and good / outstanding schools, but it does have a large road running through it...

Train links are good to Cannon Street, tho less frequent and slightly longer journey than from Hither Green (another area I like).

Can anyone give me some insight into the area? In particular the road divide - is it very noisy, polluted if you live close? Are there good childcare options? Which parks are the best for kids? Are there nice independent cafes and things to do with babies and young children?

Hi i dont it well, the high street is ok fairly good mix of shops,not many nice coffee shops though, traffic can be very busy as its on route A2/rochester way, dont really know a great deal re;parks/nursery or schools, it did have a bit of reputation as being bnp leaning, but they may have changed, sure someone will be along, that has more recent information, dont know what your budget is, but would recommend beckenham/eden park/west wickham direct line to cannon st, very green, some excellent schools & family friendly.

I concur with all (including bnp leaning) don't has said. It wouldn't be my choice. And Beckenham is lovely. hth

I used to live there for 16 years and although I think it's fine, it doesn't sound like the type of area you want. Hither green sounds closer to the type of environment you want- also lived there for 15 years!

Sorry post a bit confusing. Eltham is ok- parts are better than others, it does have green space but hither green, which is walking distance to blackheath has lots more coffee shops etc so sounds more suitable. Where do you live now?
