What height would look right in our 1960s house?

We've found a bookcase that ticks the boxes for our 1960s townhouse however we can't decide what height we should go for.

Living room has 8ft (245cm) ceilings and the two options we have are 159cm high or 198cm high. One seems too low and the other too high.

Help!

large one 198cm high or

medium one 159cm high

Have you contacted a cabinet maker? I imagine you could have one built for around that price.

Sorry, clicked send by accident. I would want a height in between them.

have the tall one. You will soon get used to it. It is no higher than the door. Pale colours dominate less than dark. Screw it to the wall at the top so it doesn't fall over on anyone.

Seven - don't want the hassle of finding a cabinet maker. Anything i've ever had custom made had disappointed me :(

I too would have preferred something about 180cm high but I suppose I'll have to compromise.

PigletJohn - we don't have doors :) Will take on your advise about the screwing to the wall.
